| THE
SITE OF THE FIRST WEEKLY PUBLIC SERVICE OF THE ANGLICAN CHURCH IN
BEAUMARIS,
ON THE 17TH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY, 1951
A plaque inside the garage of Mr
Clive Gleadell (standing at the right of the photograph on the
right) and Mrs Linda
Gleadell, at 11 Rennison Street, Beaumaris, records its use as the
first
venue for the newly constituted Anglican church in Beaumaris, which was
within the Parish of St. Matthew's, Cheltenham, until the present
Parish
of St. Michael and All Angels', Beaumaris, was established in March
1959. The entrance
to the garage
from Rennison
Street was very different then from the situation now.
Both the first and the last, and all but seven of the 68 services held in the garage before the church moved to its present site at 28-32 Dalgetty Road (between Martin and Bodley Streets, Beaumaris), were conducted by the Rev. Robert Dann, who was Vicar until 11th November 1956, and later became Archbishop of Melbourne. |
