Vicar

Photo of the vicar
Rev. Wayne Walters
Wayne is one of six brothers. He grew up in Thomastown, attending the local Methodist Church. He completed an Hons Arts course in History at Melbourne University, where he also served on the committee of the Christian Union. He then served as Youth Minister at St Mark’s Niddrie. Ordained ministry began with a School Chaplaincy role at Beaconhills Christian College, while also in ministry as Assistant Curate at St James Pakenham. Four years at leafy Holy Trinity Bacchus Marsh followed for the golden years of pre-school and primary age children. Wayne's first Priest in Charge role was at the Parish of Wandin, Seville & Mt Evelyn at the gateway to the beautiful Yarra Valley. A long and enjoyable ministry at Christ Church Dingley followed.

Wayne is delighted to have been part of St Michael’s Beaumaris since August 2021 and feels privileged to have served as Hon Chaplain to the local RSL since Nov 2023.

Wayne has loved sport all his life. He has professionally umpired Aussie Rules football and played competitive cricket, baseball and table tennis. Weekly table tennis (Tuesdays 9-10am) at the church hall continues to be a favoured recreation. Participants welcome!

Wayne is an avid reader. He is married to Roslyn whose unwavering support and musical gifts are also enjoyed at St Michael’s. They have two adult children: Rosanne, who has made her home in Bolivia, raising their two Bolivian grandsons; and Freddie, residing a little closer to home in St Kilda East, Melbourne.
